I've found that it really only takes around 2 years for certain styles (and therefore many, many tracks) to sound outdated just from gradual yet defining shifts in production techniques, style choices, trends, and even quality in many cases within genres and subgenres. Tastes, styles, and techniques change very quickly except with a few songs which are relative "classics" or timeless tracks. The speaker and their partner continue their playful and carefree attitudes Let's go down to the tennis court, and talk it up like yeah (Yeah) The speaker imagines someone observing them from a distance The speaker's emotions are becoming overwhelming and affecting them on a deep level The speaker feels vulnerable and exposed in their current situation The speaker feels that things seemed perfect in their memories, but that reality is different The speaker is aware that their current status and success will not last indefinitely The speaker and their friends feel united and powerful when they are all successful and popular The speaker's male friends cause them to feel conflicted emotions again, but the speaker still cares for them The speaker struggles to rediscover enjoyment in their activities, now that they are famous and under scrutiny The speaker has conflicting emotions and desires that are causing inner turmoil The speaker will view their home city from a new, unique perspective The speaker is excited to embark on a new adventure The speaker and their partner go to a familiar place to hang out and engage in playful conversation The speaker and their partner maintain their happiness and composure despite their fears and anxieties The speaker sees disinterest and apathy as a form of expression The speaker views themselves as a beautiful yet vulnerable individual The speaker desires their partner to be amusing and lighthearted The speaker remains in control of their possessions and doesn't let them define their identity The speaker feels energized and motivated by the small things they have acquired Getting pumped up from the little bright things I bought The speaker lives in the present moment, taking advantage of the opportunities available to them The speaker always pursues their desires and ambitionsĪnd I am only as young as the minute is full of it Never not chasing a million things I want The speaker engages in their actions for the excitement of it, doing exceptionally well People's attempts to seem clever and impress others are unimpressive and monotonousīecause I'm doing this for the thrill of it, killin' it Making smart with their words again, well I'm bored People's conversations can be tedious and uninteresting The song wraps up with Lorde inviting her friend to talk it up on the tennis court once more, emphasising the importance of seizing the moment and enjoying life while it lasts.ĭon't you think that it's boring how people talk Lorde also talks about her upcoming journey on her first plane and how she wants to have fun again after being known and pressured by her peers. They find happiness even when they are scared and invite their friends to join them on the tennis court to talk and have a good time. She goes on to say that she and her friend can be the "class clown" and "beauty queen in tears", respectively, as they show others how little they care about conforming to society's norms. Despite all of these things, Lorde knows that these objects will never own or control her. She acknowledges that she is only as young as the current moment and finds happiness in the little things that she buys to pump herself up. Lorde sings about how she is bored with the way people talk and their smart words, as she is more interested in the thrill of chasing after the million things she wants. The song "Tennis Court" by Flume featuring Lorde is about the thrill of youth and living in the moment. Getting caught soft with the triple is it How can I fuck with the fun again, when I'm knownĪnd my boys trip me up with their heads again, loving themĮverything's cool when we're all in line, for the throne I'll see the veins of my city like they do in spaceīut my head's filling up with the wicked games, up in flames Pretty soon I'll be getting on my first plane Let's go down to the tennis court, and talk it up like yeah (yeah) We're so happy, even when we're smilin' out of fear It's a new art form showing people how little we care (yeah)
